Bike or Drive
I don't like to bike in the rain. Hiking, roller skiing, paddling, yes, yes, yes. Running, yes, all day long. Biking, not so much. This morning it was raining, and I had a big project to get working on early, and ... I can always find an excuse to leave the bike in the shed and get in the car when it's raining.
But this evening, as I drove home from work, 9000 other car-people and I were stuck for what seemed like forever while a ginormous barge tugged slowly through the Ballard Bridge, and while the rain dripped down my windshield and I listened to my new Pascal Gemme CD, I had plenty of time to contemplate my foolishness. Here I was, after sitting at work all day, now sitting in my car, paying for parking, polluting the atmosphere, polluting my body, making my elderly car engine work harder than it should, for no good reason. After all, I have a perfectly good bike, and a strong healthy body that likes to be outside, and a need for fresh air, and time.
But still, I don't like to bike in the rain.
